New secure payment unit for US transport
Almex
Rapid Transit Payment
Brief: To design an integrated system for payment on the bus and light rail systems in the USA. The system was also to incorporate a secure method of transferring money from the vehicle to a depot safe prior to collection and transit to the bank. Exiting systems, consisted of a number of disparate pieces of equipment with very poor levels of security and note / coin validation.
Process: IDC were responsible for the whole project including industrial design, ergonomics, engineering, electronics and software design. To deliver this project we put together a dynamic multidisciplinary team. IDC generated ergonomically designed concepts for customer and driver modules and analysed the work and money flow. Full size foam models were produced and evaluated to asses user interaction.
Achievement: IDC created an appealing and user friendly system which significantly enhanced the security issues and ease of use.
