Brief: To design a new 25 tonne hydraulic press to reduce cost and weight, and to give a new product image.

Process: Stress Analysis was implemented because of high load requirement. This meant that the structural performance was paramount . Using finite element analysis (FEA) we optimised the casting design to give a structurally efficient and simple aesthetic form.

Our industrial designers refined the basic geometry and created a new control housing, designed to compliment the press form and provide an attractive user-friendly interface. Polyurethane castings were used for the instrument cover and safety guard to give a high quality feel and finish without high tooling costs.

Achievement: The Atlas press has become the leading laboratory press for sample preparation. Its’ attractive, modern, thought out design makes it stand out in a crowded market.
