Mating reduced via Auto-Confusion

Exosect
Auto-Confusion Mating Disruption System

Brief: To design a new lodge and tray for Exosect’s patented electrostatic powder that would be easier to fill than the existing design. The new design was to be both more robust and easier to install whilst at the same time achieving a tight cost target.

Process: The initial phase involve a range of concepts using different production techniques. These were narrowed down to a simple concept using flat polypropylene sheet for the lodge with vacuum formed tray and lid. IDC developed the various lodge concepts using cardboard models, the best of which were then prototyped in polypropylene. IDC made a resin tool to vacuum form the tray and lid and then produce initial production quantities in our model shop. IDC liaised with Exosect’s manufacturers through preproduction and into volume manufacture.

Achievement: A successful and robust product that has been sold across several continents. Exosect was on time and met its cost target.
